At Medicom SAS (Medicom Group), our shared commitment is to help make the world safer and healthier by providing reliable solutions and services.
With this in mind, we have partnered with Adjust’Air, a service provider specializing in fit testing for respiratory protection masks and an expert in air filtration for users of FFP2/3 masks.
Over the past few decades, occupational health and safety has become a major concern for businesses. Employers are required to assess risks and implement solutions.
Wearing respiratory protection is essential for staying safe, but a mask is ineffective if it does not fit the wearer’s face properly.
Poorly fitting FFP-type respiratory protective equipment (RPE)—Category III PPE—can pose a serious and life-threatening risk!
However, not all people wearing FFP masks are optimally protected. Why?
- The delivery person is not trained to wear a mask
- The mask does not fit properly on the wearer's face
- The mask does not fit this person's face shape
The quantitative fit test is designed to determine the seal of a respirator. It is performed on all types of respirators: FFP1, FFP2, FFP3, disposable half-masks, full-face masks, and even self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for firefighters.
The role of Adjust’Air technicians is to educate users on the best practices they should be aware of and follow when wearing a respiratory protective mask. They will also be responsible for training users on how to properly fit their respiratory protective equipment and may recommend a mask size that better suits the user’s facial structure.
Using the Fit Test, we can determine whether:
- Users receive the level of protection they expect
- The mask does not leak
- The size of the APR is properly tailored to the wearer's body type
Conducting quantitative fit tests on a regular basis is the only way to ensure the effectiveness of the respiratory protective masks being used.
So when should you take a fit test?
- When initially selecting the APR
- If the facepiece has not been tested previously
- When changing models and/or brands
- If there are changes in the wearer’s facial features (scars, weight loss, etc.)
- If the company's health and safety policy requires it
How is the fit test conducted?
> 1-Day Pass:
- Up to 15 people tested
- About 15 minutes per person
- Night sessions are available upon request
> Procedure:
The wearer is asked to perform a series of exercises and movements using the Portacount particle counter. The principle involves measuring the particle concentration in the ambient air and comparing it with that inside the mask.
With its Kolmi Op Air Pro Oxygen FFP mask line, Medicom SAS offers customers the option to choose a mask that fits their face shape from sizes S, M, and L.
